Multisensory Methods: Colour Coding
Effective for retrieving information using visual cues
Can be helpful for: Individuals who struggle with memorising and recalling information and have challenges with reading or processing
How to use Colour Coding
When revising topics for an exam, try and colour code anywhere you can. Use a specific colour for a specific subject or topic- and try writing notes in that colour pen, using that colour notebooks and folders, and practising recall from flashcards of that colour. Make the use of colour relevant to your needs and a system that works for you.
The Science Behind Multisensory Methods
Colours can be an extremely powerful sorting system, especially for individuals with ADHD, dyslexia and other neurodiversities. Colours provide universal visual cues which are easy to recall. Automatic recall is usually easy with colour, so utilising colour when studying is a great way to aid your memory and information retention.
