Batch Processing: Enhancing Productivity

Who Can Benefit?

Batch processing is an effective strategy for individuals who struggle with motivation, decision paralysis, perfectionism, or procrastination. By grouping similar tasks together, this method helps increase focus, save time, and reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed.

How to Implement Batch Processing

  1. Group Similar Tasks Together: Instead of switching between different types of tasks, categorise your tasks into batches based on their nature (e.g., Housework, Health, Admin, Writing, Research). Focus on completing all tasks within one category before moving on to the next.
  2. Prioritise One Batch at a Time: Choose one batch of tasks and commit to working through them in a single session. This approach minimises task initiation, making it easier to stay focused and complete more in less time.
  3. Schedule Batch Days: Dedicate specific days or times in your calendar to focus on particular batches of tasks. For example, you might reserve Mondays for administrative tasks and Sundays for housework. Consistent scheduling helps build routines and reduces decision fatigue.

The Science Behind Batch Processing

For individuals, particularly those with ADHD, initiating tasks can be a significant challenge. Batch processing reduces the cognitive load associated with task switching, helping you maintain momentum and reduce procrastination. By focusing on similar tasks in a single session, you eliminate the need to constantly reorient yourself, leading to increased productivity and efficiency.
