Specialist Autism and ADHD Mentor

At Talking Minds, we provide tailored, one-to-one mentoring for students in higher education who receive Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA). We’re looking for passionate, experienced professionals to join our growing team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of neurodiverse students.

About the Role

As a Specialist Mentor, you will:

  • Offer structured 1:1 mentoring to students with autism, ADHD, or related neurodiverse profiles
  • Support students in building strategies for managing:
    • Anxiety, stress, and emotional regulation
    • Time management and organisation
    • Prioritisation and setting goals
    • Motivation, focus, and prioritising tasks
    • Transitions in and out of university life
  • Encourage self-awareness, resilience, and independence
  • Maintain professional boundaries
  • Tailor each session to the student’s unique needs and goals

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking empathetic and experienced professionals who understand the needs of students with autism and ADHD. You should be confident working independently, take a person-centred and practical approach to mentoring, and have a strong grasp of the challenges neurodiverse students face in higher education. The ability to maintain accurate session records and communicate effectively is essential.

Essential Requirements

  • Ability to do some face-to-face support at HEI’s near your area
  • Undergraduate degree
  • Six National Autistic Society (NAS) online training modules, including Autism and SPELL in Higher Education module
  • Or postgraduate qualification in Autism or Special Educational Needs and Disability
